It’s time to celebrate summer! Visit Franklin Park Zoo on July 9 to watch as some of the animals receive beach-themed enrichment. Animals have many adaptations to adjust to changing seasons. Some may shed their thick winter coats, while others may sweat to regulate their body temperature, just like humans do. Be sure to stop by the education station to learn more about these incredible adaptations and how they compare to our own.

What is enrichment? Enrichment plays a key role in our animal care program, and can be offered in a variety of different ways – zookeepers use novelty foods, sounds, smells, boxes, bags, and toys to provide activities that excite all the senses. Environmental enrichment encourages animals to use their natural abilities and behaviors to interact with their environment.
