Pastoral scenes, languid dreams, fantasy and filigree occupy Chameleon Arts Ensemble’s 24th season opener with a grand return to in-person concerts and the art form it loves. The program, titled “as the season return,” is bookended by Samuel Barber’s classic Summer Music for wind quintet and Anton Bruckner’s magnificent String Quintet in F Major. Completed in 1879, the String Quintet was written in the afterglow of his Fifth Symphony and just as epically scaled with rich and impassioned harmonies, vigorous counterpoint, nods to Austrian folk music and idyllic scenes. Also on the program are Kenneth Fuchs’ Quiet in the Land for flute, English horn, clarinet, viola and cello and Zoltán Kodály’s 1920 Serenade, Op. 12 for two violins and viola.
Performances take place on Saturday, October 23 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 24 at 4 p.m. at First Church in Boston. Proof of vaccination and masks required. Limited seating capacity. For more information or to order tickets, please call 617-427-8200 or visit http://www.chameleonarts.org.
