Description

Join the National Parks of Boston and the USS Constitution Museum for a two-day extravaganza celebrating the role of women workers at the Charlestown Navy Yard! Thousands of women worked at the Charlestown Navy Yard during World War II. Their efforts played a critical role in the outcome of the war and left a lasting mark on American history. Come join us in remembering and celebrating the work of these Shipbuilding Women of the Navy!

Both days:

Hands on History: Twist your own rope, make a Navy Yard work badge, pick up a SWON coloring book, snap a picture at the “We Can Do It!” selfie booth, and more! Join a ranger for a walking tour focusing on the women workers of World War II.

Rosie’s Legacy Speaker Series: Learn about the social, cultural, and personal stories of the women workers of WWII, including a keynote by Marla Miller from UMass Amherst and a panel discussion.

Vehicles for Victory: See vintage vehicles from World War II that were transported aboard Boston-built ships.

Rosie Roll Call: View photographs and newspaper articles featuring the SWON’s who worked at the yard. Have a Rosie in the family? Add them to the roll call!

Saturday, August 12:

Swing Dance: Put on your best dress or zoot suit and dance the night away as a band plays live on Pier 1! Lessons start at 6:30 p.m. Dance at 7 p.m.

Sunday, August 13:

Mood Swings Orchestra: Grab a seat and listen as 19 jazz-loving women play big band swing tunes.
