Thomanerchor Leipzig (St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig) was founded 800 years ago in Leipzig, Germany, and led by Johann Sebastian Bach from 1723 until his death in 1750. Established in 1212, Bach led the choir for 27 years and together they premiered numerous works by the master. A major institution in Germany, The St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig operates its own school just a stone’s throw from the St. Thomas church. In celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, the choir will perform works by Heinrich Schütz, Johann Hermann Schein, J.S. Bach, and Mendelssohn.
