Original Gravity’s third season opener welcomes an array of Musical Robots to Mystic Brewery in Chelsea, MA on Friday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. The mechanical instrumentalist creations of robotic mastermind Scott Barton, Assistant Professor of Music at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, will perform alongside human musicians in both composed pieces and structured improvisation. The evening will be a battleground where human creativity and responsiveness is pitted against the extensibility of the machines we create, begging the question: Who is ultimately in control—Human or Robot?
Mystic Brewery will prepare an exclusive, never-before-released gruit crafted solely for this Original Gravity concert, only available at the show. The creation was inspired by the music of Scott Barton—a unique, synesthetic treat for the audience.
Also showcased will be works by local composers:
* Dan Tramte: “Corse Mode” for electronics-enhanced Morse Code straight key machine
* Dan VanHassel: A World Premier of “Pivot” for viola and computer
* David Ibbett: “Islands” for cello and digital sounds—our 2016 Call-for-Scores winner!
Tickets to Original Gravity’s Musical Robots are $15, on sale now.
