Boston's Irish Film Festival has celebrated and promoted global Irish cinema since 1999. The festival has become the largest event of its kind outside Ireland. It provides exhibition, distribution, and educational opportunities for filmmakers; honors their work with awards; and produces original documentaries on contemporary Irish cinema. This year's festival honors the multi-award winning documentary One Million Dubliners, the humorous and affecting story of Irish necropolis Glasnevin Cemetery, which has its international premiere at the Irish Film Festival, Boston, Friday March 20. the film is also being awarded the festival’s Director’s Choice Award in advance of the film's North American DVD and VOD release on April 21. Receiving the Special Jury Prize is An Bronntanas, a contemporary thriller set against the background of a local independent lifeboat crew working off the coast of Conamara.
