The critically-acclaimed Chameleon Arts Ensemble presents an invigorating chamber music program inspired by song and dance, the root of all music. Sergei Prokofiev’s fiendishly kinetic Quintet for oboe, clarinet, violin, viola, and double bass originated as a ballet that was too difficult to dance. Witold Lutoslawski captured the spirit of Polish folk music with his 1954 Dance Preludes for clarinet and piano. Andrea Clearfield’s Neruda Songs for oboe and double bass and Joseph Phibbs’ Flex for flute, violin, cello, and piano emulate movement with sound. Finally, Antonin Dvorak’s E-flat Major Piano Quartet, Op. 87 embraces the rhythmic vitality and heartfelt lyricism of his native Bohemia.
