Composers in their twilight years form the core of Chameleon Arts Ensemble’s season finale. One of the most exhilarating, colorful and refined works in his catalog, Brahms’ G Major string quintet is a moving swan song from a remarkable creative life. Ravel’s last chamber work—his Sonata for violin and piano—shatters stylistic boundaries with an infusion of American blues. Faure’s Piano Trio is a valedictory work of radiant perfection, and Arnold Bax bids farewell to friends with his 1916 Elegiac Trio for flute, viola and harp. Finally, Elliott Carter gives us an exquisite essay on the passage of time with his Tempo e Tempi for soprano, oboe, clarinet, violin and piano.
